MCW Metrobus Mk.I London Transport BARGAIN (OOC45102)

Corgi OOC > Double Deck Buses > MCW Metrobus Mk.I London Transport BARGAIN

Corgi OOC 45102. The MCW Metrobus was introduced in 1978 as a competitor to Leyland's Titan. It used the infamous Gardner 6LXB engine coupled to a Voith automatic transmission, though later models used Rolls Royce Eagle and Cummins L10 engines. The majority of the build was sold as complete buses but Alexander and Northern Counties also bodied the chassis. London Transport was a major customer with over 1,400 placed in service; the other major user was West Midlands PTE with over 1,100. They have proved a popular and strong design through both Mk.I and Mk.II types and hundreds are still in service across many parts of Britain.
The Metrobus was progressively introduced in large numbers across London during 1979/80. Most were Mk.I dual-door models - very few single door or Mk.II versions saw service in London. Single door exceptions included five MCM bodied Mk.I's bought secondhand from Greater Manchester, number M1443-47 (GBU 1/4/5/8/9V). They were used on tendered routes in 1987/88 out of Potters Bar garage.
